Every year on September 30, we observe Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour survivors and ancestors who perished from residential schools, as well as families and communities who continue to be affected. Please read on to learn more about how to engage this year.

Educational Booth & Orange Shirt Sale Days:
Tuesday September 20 & Wednesday September 21, 2022
9 a.m. – to 5 p.m. | Peter Gilgan Atrium (front foyer of Women’s College Hospital)

Drop by to pick up educational materials and purchase an orange t-shirt designed by the Centre for Wise Practices team. Proceeds from sales will be donated to the Woodland Cultural Institute’s “Save the Evidence” campaign, which aims to build an Interpreted Historic Site and Educational Resource Centre at the former Mohawk Institute Residential School.

Speaker Panel

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Panel: “Action & Accountability”
Friday, September 30, 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

To honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Centre for Wise Practices will be hosting a panel in WCH’s auditorium with Dr. Lisa Richardson, Strategic Lead in Indigenous Health, WCH, and Heather McPherson, President and CEO of WCH, who will be joined by special guests, to be announced soon! The panel will include a traditional opening, drumming and song from WCH’s Elder in Residence Kawennanoron Cindy White as well as remarks by executive leadership from Women’s College Hospital and our Foundation. Panelists will be guided in a moderated discussion on what action and accountability has looked like for our institutions and partnering communities dedicated to honouring the specific TRC calls-to-action 18-24 for healthcare and education and the MMIWG’s health and wellness calls for justice for service providers.

In-person attendance for our auditorium will be limited.
