We were pleased to support the 3rd Annual Canadian Children, Youth & Communities (CCYC) Health In | Equity Conference on October 20-21, 2023.
This conference gathered together paediatric and allied healthcare professionals from across Canada to contribute to discussions around addressing health care inequities from birth to adolescence.
Three staff members and two Leong Scholars from the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Children presented their research and community work at the CCYC In | Equity Conference.

This workshop presentation discussed the importance of engaging community partners in the research process. It highlighted opportunities for researchers to increase their knowledge in carrying out community-engaged research at the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Children. This includes a lecture series,drop-in consultation service, trainee hub, collaboration hub, and an online resource library.
A Systematic Review of Community Engagement in Health Equity Research Published in High Impact Medical Journals

This poster presentationreported the findings of a systematic review on how researchers are applying community engagement approaches to the design and conduct of research. Its findings show the need for increased community engagement in the design and conduct of health equity-focused research published in high impact medical journals.
Impact Of Social Determinants of Health on Adherence to Care of Rare Pediatric Eye Cancer Patients

This poster presentation reported the findings of a retrospective study that aimed to quantify the availability of social determinants of health data in the electronic health record of patients managed in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at The Hospital for Sick Children. Its findings demonstrate the need for additional supports or accommodations to reduce cancellation and non-show rates for eye cancer patients.
Use of and Patient Satisfaction with Virtual Care among Adult Patients and Caregivers of Pediatric Patients Facing Language Barriers: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

This poster presentation focused the findings of a systematic and meta-analysis review of four electronic databases on the use of and patient satisfaction with virtual care among adult patients and caregivers of pediatric patients in high-income countries by presence of language barriers. Its findings add clarity to the relationship between language barriers and virtual care use.
